Rivian Hits R2 Carbon Emission Target Years Ahead of Schedule

Sustainable manufacturing becomes reality

As reported by The Verge, electric vehicle maker Rivian has achieved its environmental goals for its latest model, the R2, well ahead of schedule. The company aimed to cut the vehicle's lifecycle carbon emissions by 50 percent, successfully hitting the target in 2026 instead of 2030.

According to Rivian's 2025 Impact Report, this milestone was achieved through the extensive use of renewable energy in the manufacturing process and material optimisation. Compared with the preceding R1, the R2 incorporates significantly more recyclable and biodegradable components, substantially shrinking the vehicle's ecological footprint.
