Hackers and Ransomware Groups Exploit Cisco FMC Flaws

Cisco's threat intelligence team, Cisco Talos, has reported that hackers are actively exploiting two recently discovered vulnerabilities in the company's Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC). As reported by BleepingComputer, the security flaws are being targeted by three distinct hacker groups linked to both ransomware operations and state-sponsored cyber attackers.

Cisco FMC is a centralised management platform that helps organisations efficiently control network security systems and firewalls. By exploiting these flaws, attackers can bypass security barriers, gain access to critical infrastructure, and execute malicious code remotely on the system.

Targets of hacker groups

According to Cisco Talos, all three threat actor groups operate using different methods and motivations. Some focus on financial gain and attempt to encrypt data for ransom demands, while state-backed groups prioritise espionage and stealing strategic information from corporate networks.

Cisco has already released security updates to fix these flaws, but many organisations have not yet managed to patch their systems. Hackers are specifically targetting these vulnerable systems to penetrate corporate networks.
